Florida homeowners insurance after hurricane season

A quiet season is not a reason to skip the renewal. Here is what to read on a Palm Bay home quote before you pay it.

The deductible page

Florida home policies often have two deductibles. One is a dollar amount for most claims. The hurricane or wind deductible is often a percentage of the dwelling limit. Two percent of a $300,000 home is $6,000, and that is before the rest of the claim. Your percentage may differ. Read the quote. We will point at it with you.

After a storm, some carriers stop writing new policies for a while. If we cannot place a home, we will say the market is closed. We will not invent a quote.

Flood, rentals, and Citizens

Flood is not part of a standard homeowners policy. Storm surge and standing water need a flood policy, through the National Flood Insurance Program or a private flood carrier. Buy it before you need it. A flood policy usually has a waiting period.

If you rent the house out, including short stays, tell us. A policy for a home you live in can refuse a claim from a rental you did not disclose. Renters who do not own the building still need their own policy for belongings.

Citizens is one of the carriers this agency has listed. It exists for homes that do not get a comparable offer from other carriers. It is not our automatic first stop. People’s Trust, Tower Hill, Travelers, and others may quote when they have appetite for the ZIP code. Allstate and GEICO are on our carrier list as well, mostly where they write the lines you need.

What to send with a quote request

The property address, the year the roof was replaced if you know it, and a wind-mitigation form if you have one. An inspection can change the premium. We do not promise the discount. Call or text (321) 429-1182, or use the quote form and choose home, auto, or renters.

Boats and RVs need their own policies. Ask on the same call if you want them quoted together.

A free quote is not a policy. Nothing on this page is a binder of coverage.

Questions people ask

Does my home policy pay for flood?

Not as a standard feature. Flood coverage is a separate policy. We will not tell you that a wind deductible covers rising water.

Can you beat my current premium?

Sometimes the premium is lower. Sometimes another carrier is lower because the deductible is higher or the roof payment is different. We show both numbers. We do not promise savings.

Do you insure homes outside Palm Bay?

Yes, across Florida where our carriers will write the risk, with the office based in Palm Bay. The address still decides the quote.
