General liability

General liability insurance in Palm Bay

General liability helps a business with claims that it caused bodily injury or property damage to someone else. It is not workers’ compensation, and it is not a professional-liability policy.

Why people call

  • Injury and damage to others

A customer hurt at your shop, or damage you cause to someone else’s property, is the usual reason people buy this.

  • Not every lawsuit

Professional mistakes, employee injuries, and your own vehicles have other policies. We say which claims this one leaves out.

  • Certificates

Landlords and general contractors ask for proof. If the carrier writes the policy, a certificate is a normal request.

What it covers

General liability helps when someone says your business caused bodily injury or damaged their property. A customer who falls in the shop, or a job that damages a client’s building, is the usual shape of the claim. The policy has a per-occurrence limit and an aggregate limit. We show both. We do not pick a limit for you.

It does not pay your employees’ medical bills. That is workers’ compensation. It does not pay because your advice cost a client money. That is professional liability. It does not insure the building you own, the truck, or a data breach. Those are separate pages. A personal umbrella is a different product for your household, not this policy.

Who needs it

Shops, contractors, and other Palm Bay and Brevard County businesses buy it because a landlord, a venue, or a general contractor asks for a certificate, or because one injury can be expensive. A one-person firm can still need it. The question is the work, not the size of the payroll.

Call or text (321) 429-1182. Tell us what the business does, where it does it, and the rough receipts. Choose General liability on the quote form if you already know this is the line.

A free quote is not a policy. Nothing on this page is a binder of coverage.

Questions people ask

Is general liability the same as a business owners policy?

No. General liability is one coverage. A business owners policy packages liability with property for some kinds of businesses. If you have no business property to insure, liability alone may be the right start. We will say which form the quote is.

Does this cover my employees if they get hurt?

No. Injured employees are a workers’ compensation question in Florida. General liability is for other people: customers, visitors, and the public.

Does it cover a mistake in my professional work?

Usually no. A faulty installation that damages a client’s building can be a general liability claim. Bad advice, a missed deadline, or a professional error is often an errors-and-omissions claim. Tell us what you actually do.

What limits do contracts in Florida ask for?

There is no single number. A landlord may ask for one limit. A general contractor may ask for another, plus an additional insured endorsement. Bring the contract. We will not invent a limit and call it standard.

Can you add my client as an additional insured?

If the carrier allows that endorsement and you ask before the job. The wording has to match what the carrier will issue. A certificate that only names them is not always the same as additional insured status. We will say which one you are getting.

I work alone. Do I still need it?

If a contract, a landlord, or a venue requires it, yes, even with no employees. The exposure is injury or damage to someone else, not the size of your payroll. We still need to know what the work is.

Is a personal umbrella the same thing?

No. A personal umbrella sits on top of a home and auto policy. General liability is a business policy. If you have both a house and a business, we quote them separately so the claims do not get mixed up.

How much does it cost?

It depends on the work, the receipts, the location, and your claims history. We do not publish a sample premium. The quote is free.
